Winter Wonderland lyrics

Celtic Woman

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he is Parson Brown

He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
While you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland
Walking in a winter wonderland
Walking in a winter wonderland.

(Instrumental)

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids they knock him down.

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Composer: Felix Bernard (1897 - 1944)

Lyricist: Richard B. Smith (1901 - 1935)

Written: 1934

First Recording: October 23, 1934 by Richard Himber and His Ritz-Carlton Orchestra.

Ritz Himber (1899 -1966) was an American bandleader, composer, violinist, magician and practical joker.

Brief: The lyrics paint a picturesque scene of snowy landscapes, sleigh rides, and building a snowman, creating a whimsical and cozy atmosphere.

Interestingly, the song was inspired by Smith's view of a snow-covered park in his hometown of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, while he was recovering from tuberculosis. The mention of "Parson Brown" refers to a travelling clergyman who could perform weddings, adding a playful touch to the lyrics.
